artist statement

 

Not everything comes from an empty space and a solitary moment. The inspiration almost always comes from daily life, the details, the shadows, the planes that appear in the architecture,  from photographs.
The tools I use are diverse: brushes, clothes, papers, cards, the hand. The techinques are varied and they come as a response to the curiosity of an experimentation, other times after the insatisfaction with a result. I use oil paint, acryilic, enamel, collages of materials collected on everyday life. 
I like to plan my work ahead , but I often find that letting things happen by chance suggest better paths and more interesting solutions.
The works result of an exercise of freedom, I depart in every work looking for something to which I identify myself, following the development of a rational thought, trying to obtain a reassuring harmony, or simply to express an emotion. 
A work gets done when it reflects an inner truth. But when it ends the restlessness allways returns as does the thrill of a new begining.

“Eduarda Ferreira cultivates a painting stripped away of all staging, in the rigor that refuses any caving to the easy effect, always waging on authenticity that even suggests some tendentious approximation to minimalism. Thus, a painting that plays with minimal elements: lines, textured smudges, symbols (circles, double rings, spirals), figures coming or going. It is certainly possible to say that this painting is surrounded with mystery, trying however to tell stories of a lived reality. But what is expressed, painting after painting, beyond any dramatism, is a search for a soothing balance, a deep yearning for harmony. The search has either melancholic either ironic tones and, nevertheless, the effect is always of an attained serenity, enhanced by the format and size of the canvas. Eduarda Ferreira says, in an effort to explain her work, that in the makeup of these canvas she “looks for a reassuring logic that is perhaps inspired in scientific knowledge”, that of the painter herself.”
